Dr. Gregory M. Dowbak M.D. plastic surgeon Bonita Springs, Fort MeyersGregory M. Dowbak, M.D. is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with offices in Bonita Springs (ThePlasticSurgerySpa.Com) and Naples (The Body MD), Florida. He received his undergraduate education with highest honors at Indiana University and subsequently attended the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical College in Brooklyn, New York. In his final year at Downstate, Dr. Dowbak received specialized training in orthopaedic surgery at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, and gender reversal surgery at the Gender Identity Clinic at John’s Hopkins Medical Center. After completing a rotating internship at the University of Oregon, he returned to Downstate where he completed his general surgery, vascular surgery and plastic surgery training. After 11 years of solo practice in plastic and reconstructive surgery in Central California, he completed a one year hand and microsurgery fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center-Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas and advanced training in microsurgery at the University of Louisville.

He has been involved in performing and teaching plastic surgery in several third world countries, specifically reconstructions of congenitally deformed children. In 1992, he participated in the Presidential Initiative Operation “Provide Hope” in Russia and Central Asia. In 1994, as a member of the United Nations Disaster Assistance Relief Team (DART) under the direction of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), he spent one month in Sarajevo, Bosnia as the only plastic and hand surgeon while the city was under siege. Locally, Dr. Dowbak has volunteered his services for the care of several patients from Ukraine and participated in “Healthy Kids” program for the indigent.

Dr. Dowbak is a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and an Active Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Additionally, in 1994 he was granted the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery (CAQHS). In 1995 Dr. Dowbak became a Qualified Medical Evaluator in California and in 1998 was certified in Worker’s Compensation Cases in Florida. He speaks three languages: English, Russian and Swedish and is currently studying German. He is an active athlete, having completed over 38 marathons in four countries including the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle and the 2004 Boston Marathon. Dr. Dowbak is a Commander in the United States Navy Reserve assigned to the Fourth Marine Division of which he was a former Commanding Officer and Battalion Surgeon. On September 6, 1996, Dr. Dowbak was awarded a “Certificate of Commendation” from the United States Marine Corps for the care of an injured United States Marine while on active duty. Dr. Greg Dowbak was honorably discharged from the US Navy Reserve July 1, 2005.

He is active in the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation, having served on the Hand and Upper Extremity Sub-Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners from 1993 to 2002 for the Plastic Surgery In-Service Examination which is a supplement to the teaching curriculum of most plastic surgery programs in the United States and overseas. He has served on the 1997 and 1998 PSEF International Symposia Committee meetings held in the Ivory Coast and China. He has published numerous scientific articles (the most recent of which was in 2004 entitled “V-Y-S Plasty for Scalp Defects” in the Journal of the ASPS) and has lectured at the Karolinska Institute in Huddinge, Sweden, Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia, the Israel Plastic Surgery Society in Jerusalem, Israel and before the Canadian Aesthetic Laser Society in Toronto . Dr. Dowbak is nationally known for helping implement such innovations as the laser treatment of Acne with the Radiance Laser, the Foto-Facial RF with Syneron’s Aurora which uses Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Radio-Frequency Energy (RF) to remove brown spots, red spots, rosacea, fine wrinkles and sun damaged skin, use of the Polaris System which uses ELOS (Electrical-Optical Synergy of Energy) for the treatment of Deep Wrinkles. Dr. Dowbak has lectured nationally that such systems make all chemical peels and “laser resurfacing” obsolete, especially considering that they have no “down time.” Dr. Dowbak was the first to bring the Dornier 940 Diode laser to Southwest Florida for the vaporization of spider veins and the laser ablation of the saphenous vein which makes “vein stripping” an obsolete procedure. He completed a one year vascular surgery research fellowship “with distinction” under world famous Dr. Phillip Sawyer at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center as well as a one year fellowship in microvascular surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Additionally Dr. Dowbak has been certified by Spa Medica in Toronto in the “Thread FaceLift” procedure which simplifies brow lifts, midface lifts and neck lifts. Dr. Dowbak also provides the so called “weekend face lift,” the short scar face lift that can usually be done in one hour, thus a patient can have a face lift on Friday and be back to work on Monday. In September 2005 Dr. Greg Dowbak and his wife Helga were inducted into The Maliniac Circle at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in Chicago.

Dr. Dowbak is married to his wife Helga who is a chemist and former Quality Control Director of Bristol-Myers-Squibb Venezuela and additionally is the former CEO and President of Girex, an international corporation that imports and exports pigments and polymers. Her additional training as an esthetician makes her uniquely qualified to serve as the Director of The Plastic Surgery Spa.Com where Dr. Dowbak does his cosmetic surgeries.
